The Janet Mansfield Merit Award for Wood Fired Ceramics was established and sponsored by Australian Wood Firers United and was first presented at Clay Gulgong in 2022. The inaugural award was jointly awarded to Steve Williams (NSW) and Su Hanna (VIC) in 2022. In 2024, the award was presented to Joshua Rowell (VIC) by judge Dr Owen Rye.
Any delegate who brings woodfired work to display at Clay Gulgong is eligible for this prestigious award inaugurated by @quixoticaartspace and @auswoodfiredceramics
The $2,000 Janet Mansfield Award for Wood Fired Ceramics celebrates technical and artistic excellence in wood-fired ceramic practice.
Entries may be presented in any format, but must comprise of at least 70% ceramic material. Artworks should explore the distinctive qualities of wood-fired clay and/or glaze, using forms and concepts that engage the viewer and foster a deeper appreciation of the art of wood-fired ceramics.
