Anne Mette Hjortshøj lives and works on the Westcoast of Bornholm, a small Danish island in the Baltic Sea. She and her husband has spent the previous 15 years together, retracing the clay formations, that potters and ceramic industry used for 150 years until factories closed. She now, uses almost only locally sourced materials.
She started her career, as an apprentice, working for Phil Rogers, Wales, from whom she was introduced to ash glazes, salt glazing and wood firing.
Anne has carried on the work as a studio potter with solid roots in tradition. Her kiln is a two-chamber wood fired kiln.
