Eric Landon is an artist of African American and Mexican descent. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he has been based in Copenhagen, Denmark since 1999, from where he has develeped an international reputation as a skilled potter, designer and educator.
After graduating from Xavier University in Cincinnati he moved to Denmark, graduating from the Danish Royal Art Academy’s school of architecture and Design in 2007. He was awarded the Danish Design Award for Craftsman of the Year in 2015. In September 2025 the UK Times newpaper described him as one of the biggest stars of the London Design Festival. With studio workshops constantly running in both Copenhagen and Italy – and both constantly booked out – Landon also runs workshops around the world.
“I’m obsessed with vessels. Each time I sit at my wheel is an opportunity to create something singular and unique, so I’m always at a state of play, both with form and glaze. My minimal quiet forms hopefully express the beauty of variation that only hand made production can give” says Landon, the driving force behind the TORTUS studios for over three decades. “As an instructor in my own studio and in 30 other countries, I’ve helped students around the world understand how posture and movement can help them achieve a better sense of flow on the wheel”.
Landon ran several studio workshops in different regions of Australia in 2024 and we are delighted to welcome him back to be part of Clay Gulgong 2026.
