Jorgen Haarstad lives and works in Oslo, Norway. A visual artist, musician, drummer and composer. Haarstad holds a master degree from Oslo National Academy of The Arts. His work could be seen as a mix of different genres.
Expressing himself he lends as much from the industrial worker and the rock musician as he does from fellow artists. The result is complex yet an immediate and powerful, physical experience.
His recent international projects have included The Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale, South Korea 2015, The National Museum in Oslo, Norway 2016, Swidnica sculpture park, Poland 2016 and Taoxichuan International Studio, Longquan, China 2024. He is now working and prepares for the International Academy Of Ceramics/IAC´s congress 2026 in Jingdezehn, China and to the Jingdezehn International Ceramic Art Biennale 2026, China.
I am an artist, musician and composer from Oslo, Norway.
My artistic expression is particularly influenced by working as a professional drummer for more than 25 years. Free expression, musical improvisation and exploration of form, various materials, ceramic sound, sound objects and sound production to be created along the way, where I focus on detaching myself from a specific idea and rather trust the process and seek an experimental direction is my basic motivation as an artist. My stage and gallery art productions are characterized by transcendence of genres, multidisciplinarity and artistic diversity. I want form, content and strategies to reflect contemporary undercurrents and I seek continuous development and change.
