Stephen Bird is an Australian contemporary artist whose practice encompasses ceramics, painting, and works on paper. His work is characterised by complex narrative imagery that interweaves satire, social commentary, and historical reference. Bird’s compositions frequently address themes of colonial history, environmental tension, and the dynamics of contemporary cultural life.
Born in the United Kingdom and now based in Byron Bay (Cavanbah), his practice is strongly informed by place and acknowledges the unceded lands of the Arakwal people of the Bundjalung Nation.
Bird has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally, and his work is held in significant public and private collections including The National Gallery of Australia and The National Museum of Scotland.
