Driving to an interview is always equal parts nerves and excitement and thus it is as I wind my way through the countryside of Victoria, the browns and ochres of the goldfield region giving way to urban density as we (the trusted partnership of Google maps and I) skirt Melbourne on its great wide ring road and head north - into the lush green hills of the northern suburbs. Bush-lined roads dip and turn, twist, then fold back on themselves in a series of dizzying snapbacks before Google announces we’re here – in the hidden verdant pocket of the Yarra Valley that is home to ceramicist David Ray.
