Who is preserving and continuing the use of the Obvara method of firing and why? Obvara is an Eastern European Firing technique that originated in the Baltic region and is known by more than
15 names, hartavanaia, abvarnaia, in Belarus; poripott or rudita keramika in Estonia; hardened ceramics in Latvia, sourdough or leaven pottery in Lithuania, scalded ceramics in Russia and Obvara to the rest of the world. For the ease of reading I will refer to this firing technique as Obvara.
