Reinventing the Wheel: Design and fabrication of electric throwing wheel using locally available materials in nigeria

ABSTRACT
A potter’s wheel is a machine used in the shaping of round ceramics ware. The wheel may also be used during the process of trimming excess clay from leather hard ware and for applying decoration or rings of colour. One of the farthest reaching innovations in pottery was the introduction of the electric-powered potter’s wheel. However, the wheels are not locally available for potters to use due to the huge amount of cost of importation. This project will briefly discuss the local invention of a functional electric throwing wheel by generating a novel design model, accessing materials that will be used, as well as accessing the functionality of the wheel, towards improving the existing electric wheels with performance evaluation for recommendation. The result showed a significant improvement over existing electric potter’s wheels fabricated in Nigeria
