To be self-taught has always been a contentious topic in art. While human beings have been making art since the beginning of time, often with little education in materials, techniques, or theory, the concept of the ‘self-taught artist’ is a relatively new phenomenon. It is, of course, possible to develop creative talent through training, however, it can also happen without first being formally trained.
