The language used in any specialised fieldpertains mostly but not always exclusively to that speciality. To be an expert in your chosen speciality makes you a master of such knowledge based text and so you use it freely within your peer groups, confident that they will understand what it is that you say. As a relative newcomer to the ceramic arts I have heard the terms leather hard, woodfired and rutile but the moment of enlightenment took me by surprise when I discovered that I had learnt a new language and was indeed part of a new specialised group.
