Not only is art made for aesthetic purposes, but also as a tool to bear witness to social events and construct a collective memory. In this context, representing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza - unfolding before the eyes of the world in the 21st century with television crews and photographers capturing devastating effects on children in real time - ceramicists have both a humanitarian and ethical responsibility. To this end, I examine how ceramic artworks created by various artists represent the pain, massacre, and struggle for survival experienced in Gaza.
