The Colony: Marine Inspired, Multisensory Internal Wall System
The Colony is designed to be a feature wall for hospitality and retail spaces. It consists of an array of levitating ceramic pots that share a similar morphology but each possesses a unique character and identity. The pots, however, are interconnected and mounted on thin vertical steel sections, creating a collective impact, that resembles a marine colony. The project's objective to explore contemporary spatial elements, was inspired by regional artefacts from marine environment. The screen components, with their volumetric attributes are reminiscent of regional artefacts, and their fabrication methods allowed for the repetition and development of complex geometry. The design incorporated herbs, flowers, bakhoor (wood chips infused with fragrant oils), specific colors and textured glazes. This project provided a sensory experience engaging fragrances, touch, and visual elements, all while creating lasting spatial memories.
