Ceramic artists struggle to agree on a working definition for wild clay. Its name reflects this resistance to sorting into a reproducible container of language. Wild clay, as defined as clay sourced from the ground, could be applied to all clay (and wild glaze materials, but for the sake of brevity, I will address clay and glaze materials alike) as, excluding artificial polymers marketed as clay, all clay materials are sourced from and created by the geological processes of the Earth.
