Garth Clark – WITNESS TOUR

 

Internationally renowned ceramicist, writer, and gallerist Garth Clark brings his unique lecture WITNESS to Clay Gulgong, as part of an international speaking tour.
Known for his wit, deep scholarship and engaging speaking style, Garth Clark’s WITNESS fuses his own biography in a dynamic multimedia presentation encompassing key revolutionary moments for ceramics since 1970. Told in the style of a one person stage show, this lecture promises to be insightful, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

Garth Clark remains the most influential and provocative voice in international ceramics after five decades in the field. Due to this longevity, Clark has taken part in a number of revolutionary moments in the ceramic arts since 1970. He is joint founder and Editor-in- Chief for the online ceramics bible cfile, and has published more than sixty books, the most recent being Mind Mud: The Conceptual Ceramics of Ai Weiwei and Lucio Fontana Ceramics.

About Garth Clark

Garth Clark (b. 1947 Pretoria, South Africa) is a 1976 graduate of the Royal College of Art, London and currently Chief Editor for the non-profit CFile Foundation, a global online campus for contemporary ceramics in art, design, architecture and technology that broadcasts daily from Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In 1979 with Margie Hughto he curated the giant 450-object groundbreaking survey, A Century of Ceramics the United States, at the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse that toured the US for four years. It resulted in the first full book on the subject as well as a documentary film made with Orson Welles and widely shown on PBS for nearly a decade which began to shift ceramics’ current acceptance.

Among his key titles are Michael Cardew: A Portrait, American Ceramics: 1876 to the Present, The Potter’s Art: A Complete History of Pottery in Britain, Shards: Garth Clark on Ceramics and Art, and Shifting Paradigms in Contemporary Ceramics.
