Fleur Schell

In 1863 French poet Charles Baudelaire wrote …
“Genius, is no more than childhood recaptured at will.”

I am drawn to the playful and strangeness of Pop Surrealism and Contemporary Folk Art, and continue to reference both genres constantly while telling stories through porcelain and mixed media. My work explores themes of childhood innocence, simplicity and the imagined. My children are the muses in my work and as they grow and become more knowing it has challenged me to make work that explores their concerns about the environment and the natural world. Observing our children as they navigate childhood, while being enlightened by their everyday ponderings has inspired my art and helped us all stay connected as a family in a world in constant flux.
